Success in Newtown!

Beamaris was well represented in Newtown, Powys, on Sunday. Beaumaris Intermediate band and the LSW were both there, and both won their sections!

The Newtown March and Open Air Contest is a relaxed event consisting of 2 parts: an optional march judged for deportment and a seated performance of a hymn, a march and an entertainment piece.

The last competition was held four years ago due to Covid. The weather was sunny and hot to begin with, but late in the afternoon thunder clouds rolled in, and the last 3 bands played in heavy rain, one band marching in what can only be described as a deluge.

The Intermediate Band and the LSW both opted not to march (one with members too young, the other too old!) but their seated performances won prizes for both of them. The Intermediate Band were the highest placed youth band, and the LSW were the highest placed non-registered band.

The day finished off spectacularly with all 9 attending bands en mass playing ‘Slaidburn’.
